Painted Pets portraits are painted only from photographs. The works are realistic but composed and painted in a contemporary style. Rich vibrant colours are built into many layers to create the depth required to capture the individual character of each personality.
Each portrait is hand-painted on double-primed stretched canvas in artist quality oils (these have the most lustrous, stable colours and will outlast any other medium). Your portrait is signed by the artist, comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, is light-weight and ready to hang.
To commission a portrait
One
Go to the
price page page to find a size to suit your hanging space and budget (prices start at $720).
Contact us with your preferred size, your contact details and a little information about your pet. When we get
back to you, email us at least 2 photos (preferably more) of your pet (or pets). Your photos should be clear, not too far away and with good face detail. You can email high resolution photographs at 300dpi or post your photos which we scan and return to you. Remember, the clearer the photographs, the better your portrait will be. It's good for us to see your pet, but this is not essential or always possible.

Two
We confirm your price by email. If you choose to proceed, we discuss your pet and the portrait in detail, (pet's name, breed and age, personality traits, colours and distinguishing features, favourite toys etc.) We discuss the format, style and mood of your painting, the
canvas style you prefer (if you wish to frame your portrait). On acceptance of your quote you send Painted Pets a 40% deposit to secure your painting and the work begins.
It takes a little patience on your part as an oil portrait can take up to 4 months to complete. Please feel free to
contact us or phone Suzy with any questions you may have during this time.
When your contemporary animal portrait is finished, we email (or post) you a digital picture of the finished painting for you to approve. The balance is then payable to Painted Pets and your contemporary pet portrait is carefully packed for delivery.

Payment can be made either by cheque (to Painted Pets), credit card or funds transfer. Email or phone us about secure credit card payment and funds transfer details.
Special occasions and urgent requests
Sometimes a portrait is requested for a special celebration, like a birthday, anniversary, retirement etc. I will work to a deadline for a special occasion, if at all possible — but please note that a quality portrait can take up to 4 months to complete, and rushing a painting may lead to a disappointing result. We can discuss your special timing requirements but consider giving a
Painted Pets Gift Certificate. It makes a fine gift on the day and the recipient can look forward to receiving a great pet portrait —
a second gift!
